Note from the Editor

Hello children! How are you all doing? We are going through a tough time aren't we. But take heart in that tough time comes only to ensure that you get the opportunity to grow stronger, wiser than ever before.

Jonaki has been hibernating for long! Sorry about that... I will not bore you giving excuses .Here is a bunch of fresh creations from your friends to make this lock down period more creative.

The feast starts with "A letter to Santa" written by Arunodoy Ray. Check it out , do you see a reflection of yourself ? I do :-)

Next comes Saptarshi Saha's painting "Waiting for the Boat" followed by a beautiful poem "An Ode to Music' by Pramiti Nandi. The illustration that you see with the poem , is also hers. "Our home in Space" written by Aranya Ghosal is about the wonders of the solar system. Read it to feel awestruck yet again about our only home!

Talking about home, have any of you heard stories about deserting one's home? for ever? Listen to what Todi Dutt Mazumder wants to share with you in her essay - "Leaving Mahulbon for ever"

"Our Farm" essayed by Ashmit Saha is all about having cows as friends! Yes, you heard me right!  Jojo, Kali, Rani, Jamuna, Gopal and Ganga. Where do they stay? What do they eat? Do they play Holi?

Aside from the above, there are paintings/drawings done in a variety of media, sketch pen, water color, pastel, color pencil by many of our painter bloggers.

So friends , enjoy your blog, stay home, take this opportunity to learn life skills like cooking, cleaning, washing and stay creative.

Happy blogging.

A Letter to Santa - Arunodoy Ray

 A Letter to Santa

   Author : Arunodoy Ray

Dear Santa,

I am writing this letter to ask for a Christmas gift. I would like it very much if you help the poor get gifts for Christmas. They are not living a life like me.I would say this search for a Christmas gift has been very confusing. At first I said, a game console, but you said, 'No'. Then I asked for a cycle, but there is no place to ride it. I have come to this decision at last that I will get a good set of headphones from you. I have not decided the model but I will tell that when I have decided. Also I should get two gifts from you as last year I did not get one. I will write another letter to you about my second gift.

I will be very grateful if you can give me those gifts but it is your duty and you have to.

Thanking you,
yours sincerely

Arunodoy Ray

Our Farm
Ashmit Saha - Class VII

Our farm is located at Romagachi village in Madhymgram. Farm has 7 acres of land where our 8 Gir cows from Gujarat graze. You can recognise a Gir cow
by its rounded and domed forehead and long pendulous ear; they are hardy and love to be with human. Gir cow is one of our native breeds and produces A2 milk which has many health benefits that is why I love to drink this milk.

My father has planted Sandalwood , Mango trees and various Grasses and
herbs like Jinjua, Shatabari, Ashwagandha and Brahmi for our cows. Samrat is
the name of our Bull and my favourite too, because of his friendly nature he is loved by all. Others are named as Nandini, Jojo, Kali, Rani, Jamuna, Gopal and the smallest one is Ganga, she is the cuddliest one of all and always gets
special treat from my Sister.

There is also a pond where there are lots of fishes in it. There are 3 chickens
also at the farm. Whenever we go to the farm we always make “Rotis” for
the cows and they love it very much. There are 2 labours who look after
them very well.

Our cows are treated with homeopathy and ayurvedic herbal
medicines for example every day the cows are given Neem leaves to start
their day. My father says” Happy Cows give the best milk”, adequate milk is
fed to the calves before milking and sending to customers, hence it is non
violence Milk. This year we played Holi with cows at farm, and it seemed
they enjoyed a lot!

Leaving Mahulbon For Ever !! - Todi Dutt Mazumder

Leaving Mohulbon For Ever!!

Todi Dutt Mazumder, Class XII

I still remember how my grandmother would narrate to me the same story whenever I had trouble falling asleep. I am so familiar with it that I could actually complete her sentences! The story, is a non fictional one. It's about how my grandmother escaped at the time of a communal riot that took place in 1965. She was studying in Class 10 at that time. This story that I'm about to tell you, takes place in an otherwise quiet village called Mohulbon. Grandma had two friends - Rolamir bhai and Kader bhai. They never wanted the Hindu-Muslim riot to take place. Everywhere the Muslims were killing the Hindus and the Hindus were killing the Muslims : the usual scenario of a communal riot. It came to a point where no one was safe. Not even inside their homes. Thus, my grandmother's family was informed about this. At that time my great grandmother's mother was also living with my grandmother and great grandmother. Everyone was hysterical except grandma. On the day of escaping, my grandmother freed her beloved parrot and cow. She was grief stricken but could not realise so in such a commotion. She along with her family went to the nearby electric office to take shelter there for a few days. Those three days were the toughest three days of her life. Later, after getting married, she visited Mohulbon frequently but probably never could feel the same.
